Overview
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive disease of unknown aetiology. Age-related changes in blood pressure (BP) and heart rate behaviour, manifesting as exaggerated blood pressure variability and the decreased ability to respond to sudden hemodynamic changes is implicated in the pathophysiology of several conditions and end-organ damage. The aim of this study is to examine if changes in haemodynamic measures during an orthostatic challenge (active stand test) is associated with progression of AMD in participants from the The Irish Longitudinal study on Ageing (TILDA).
