Globally, the incidence of preterm birth (72 hours after birth) is a frequent complication in preterm infants, affecting up to 40% of infants born <28 weeks GA. Previous studies have reported compositional changes and reduced bacterial diversity in the intestinal microbiome of preterm infants with LOS. However, insights into functional changes and mechanisms behind these alterations have been lacking. Therefore, we conducted a comprehensive bacterial profiling analysis from 10 infants with LOS and 9 matched healthy controls.
